I think anyone who is not totally brainwashed, or brain-dead, will find this cartoon disturbing humorous. Political cartoons are supposed to make people think, unfortunately some people are just followers not leaders.
who cares about the government wiretapping terrorist organizations? you really think they are listening to your ridiculous conversations? of course not. if you ever read the news you’d realize that this “illegal” wiretapping saved the lives of hundreds in London 6 months ago when we intercepted a call saying they were going to bomb a plane. we arrested several terrorists that day. this cartoon is a classic example of liberalism that lacks any sense of intellect or any sense of cleverness.
I am far from a liberal, and I care about the government tapping everyone’s conversations without something called a warrant.
I’m sure you know what that is right?
Eavesdropping on the phone calls of Americans without a warrant is unconstitutional, as is listening to that phone call and obtaining a warrant for it several days later.
i understand your point, but if it saves lives (and it has) then i don’t care. i understand your concern, but i completely disagree. and yes, i know what a warrant is.
i don’t believe people listening to my cell phone conversations (which they aren’t) is an attack on my liberty. and if it were illegal than your democrats in congress should do something about it. but they don’t, in fact, they don’t do anything. also, i love how you say “percieved notion of secruity” as if this is all in my head and the wiretapping hasn’t actually saved lives. love it.
If my opinion matters, which it probably doesn’t, I think it is awesome and thought provoking. Almost as funny as thinking admin is a democrat. Whatever happened to surefire?
@tim
its people like you that prove once and for all that ignorance is bliss! If you honestly believe that wiretapping is constitutional then you’re as blind as the people around the world that bought into the propaganda.
Saying that “you dont care” is exactly the reason why people much like you, continue to roam like sheep, following the bandwagon because its “cool”. Do us all a favor, and put your “wiretapping for dummies” book away, and really try educating yourself~
tim - “this cartoon is stupid and not accurate. and you’re an idiot”
“i understand your point, but if it saves lives (and it has) then i don’t care. i understand your concern, but i completely disagree. and yes, i know what a warrant is.”
You guys here are missing Tim’s point. He is pointing out that our government is upholding its responsibility to protect us. I agree that people should be able to converse without being watched, but do you really understand what the Patriot Act does?
The government should do everything in their power to protect us and most important to protect national security, the problem is that Bush did it by putting fear in Americans and with that fear came retaliation for what one might say. Look at Rachel Ray wearing a simple scarf and some called her a terrorist cuz it resembled one that Arafat wore, that’s plain silly. God bless America and its leaders whomever they are.
Where in the constitution does it say “no wiretapping phone calls” I understand where you’re pulling this out. “Secure in your papers” but a phone call is a CONVERSATION…now opening your mail is a different thing. But trust me, i share the same suspicion most of you do. I worry about the government getting too hungry over terrorism, but to really get the heart of the issue, phone conversations are the least of your worries. Why don’t you consider all the other things that are unconstitutional. , Social Security, S-CHIP, Eminent Domain, Gun Laws, Medicade, Medicare, Federal Reserve (although they amended the constitution, we are supposed to only have a money system on Gold and Silver) Religious discrimination (there is no “seperation” of church and state, only the ESTABLISHMENT clause) EPA, Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, etc. Why don’t you concentrate on SHRINKING the size and scope of government and get back to the CONSTITUTION! Listening to your phone calls is a small crime (if you can prove it)
@ alleycat
Its that very logic that has crippled this very country, believing that the government should use the “power” to protect this country. The so called use of “power” you claim, is misguided and more often than not, unconstitutional. “Power”, used to defend this country would be enforcement of our borders, protecting within, certainly not listening in on our private conversations.
You would buy into the “national security” lie, falling for that propaganda that is flooding the mainstream media nightly. The government uses that phrase as a punchline, you use it as a security blanket, meanwhile your willing to give up your liberties, and sacrifice your constitutional rights. And for what? To simply exclaim that the government is protecting you?
Wake up, and don’t be so naive~
I think Tim should be locked up in a cell and fed through a tube.. yes.. we’ll be saving his life.. yes.. we’ll be protecting him from accidents, diseases, pollution, even accidentally stabbing himself with a fork.. yes.. we’re protecting him.. yes, and since we’re protecting him we’re justified.. yes, we’re saving his life, so his freedom is a small price to pay.
Whaddya say Timmy? you up for it?
Well said, and to be honest i am just confused about the whole thing, one day i believe that the government is doing the right thing another day i see right through them and i cant stand what they are and have been doing to the American people, but i really think that it is more of the present administrations fault than the government. The truth is that i love how we can all have an opinion and belief that is our own, i would die to protect that.
TIM
The wiretaps have not not made us safer, you said the London 6 are responsible for this? Show me a reliable government source that backs this up, I haven’t found one.
Anyways thats not even the point, it is indeed unconstitutional to wiretap w/o a warrant.
Its phrases like “I dont care what they (the government) does, just as long as its for my security” that are leading to the decline in our human rights and the raise of fascism in this country. When the government knows that all they have to do is foster the belief in its people that what they are doing is for security measures, then propaganda becomes rampant. They word documents and wars to make it seem like your unpatriotic if you dont support them, i.e. the PATRIOT ACT and the WAR ON TERROR. You cant have a patriot act that involves people succumbing to the will of the state, then it should be called the Nationalist act. You remember nationalism, it was a big thing in Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. Thats what we need here? And the War on Terror… You can declare war on something and at the same time use it? You fight terror with terror…. Thats like suggesting getting out of a giant hole by digging further. But im just a crazy liberal or left winger who doesnt love his country. Listen, one day people are going to wake up and realize that maybe the people in government are exactly that, just people, flawed and stupid just like the rest of us. What makes their thought process and different. So you cant hold them to this undeniable, benevolent status.
PS. I love this country very much and what it stands for, and when people in government try to convince me otherwise by DEFYING OUTRIGHT the Constitution and telling me that i dont deserve my rights or that they are subject to their wim, then i get defensive.
PPS. Bring our Soldiers home, theyve done their job without the benefits of sufficient troops, armor, and support so lets give them what they really want: TO COME HOME!!!
If anyone feels the need to continue this any further my email is zredo@yahoo.com
Complaints are made about perceived loss of liberty due to the Patriot Act. The Patriot Act is a tool used to fight terrorism. I hear complaining and moaning, but I don’t hear any alternative solutions. (Other than talking to the terrorist and persuading them to be nice guys) How many terrorist attacks has the United States suffered since 9/11? Since the Patriot Act was enacted a lot of good work has been accomplished to prevent another attack by those who would use our very freedoms against us to do us harm.
The cartoon is an incredibly distorted comparison of loss of liberty. Patrick Henry was fighting oppression by the British authority, President Bush is fighting terrorism that could not even have been imagined in 1775.
Sure, the Patriot Act presents a potential for misuse. But until someone can come up with a better solution I believe we are protected far better than without it.
See ive heard that answer many times. “The patriot act has saved us from terrorism” or that its fought terrorism. What has it done? We had 9/11 and it was horrible, but what solution is the patriot act? To preserve our rights, were going to give them away? When do we get them back? When terrorism is gone? It will never be gone. Terrorism is to one group, is patriotism to another. So do to semantics, it will never be gone from thihs world. And im sorry diplomacy doesnt seem to be an option. But we’ve never tried it before so you cant speak about it as if its already failed. And if you look into alot of terrorist groups, and many documents from the reagan era, including reagans own speeches, we sold thos weapons to the terrorists. So if we were able to sit down and discuss trade, we can sit down again.
I’ve read the posts regarding your cartoon. Many of them seem to subscribe to the theory of “Nothing to hide, nothing to fear.” I’ve broken no laws and I have nothing to hide. But there are some things I want to keep private. For instance, when I confide in my best friend thoughts and feelings that are personal, I’m doing nothing wrong. Yet, I deserve to have my privacy.
“I think Tim should be locked up in a cell and fed through a tube.. yes.. we’ll be saving his life.. yes.. we’ll be protecting him from accidents, diseases, pollution, even accidentally stabbing himself with a fork.. yes.. we’re protecting him.. yes, and since we’re protecting him we’re justified.. yes, we’re saving his life, so his freedom is a small price to pay.

Very good answer.
This cartoon is very spot on for anyone who actually knows about history and whats going on in the world. It’s sad to see that so many people are still in this strange denial about things like the patriot act or the proposed homegrown terrorism act.
Many of the responses have indeed made valid points, I feel no sympathy for those who blindly fall for the propaganda of the supposed “Patriot Act”?
How many rights, and liberties are we going to lose to the liberals? America can lose the war on terror because liberal media and liberal politicians will not admit that we are at war with a worldwide organization totally dedicated to our destruction. Author John Hagee said it best,” liberals want to cut and run”.
Many do not know, but Saudi Arabia has mad it prohibited to practice any religion but Islam. And yet we allow Saudis to build Mosques right here in America?
The point is, the government has boldly established these so called “Acts” for our security, yet removing the very rights, liberties, and most importantly, dreams of the American People, only to hand over those rights to those who are NOT citizens of this great country.
The Declaration of Independence clearly states that if the ruling government doesn’t work for the people, the people have the RIGHT to remove said government and establish a new and improved government! Time and again, I hear the response, “well what’s a new solution to security?” You just got ONE!!!
And @ ZACH: Diplomacy has failed for the past thirty years! How else do you think we got in this situation to begin with. I’m not just talking about the war on terror either, economic failure, oil rip offs, corn market closing at record high’s. Shall I continue? Please don’t sit here with your tree hugging speech hoping to get some type of sympathy! Please try to educate yourself and leave the liberal approach at the door!!! You will get no such compassion here!
I realize that, the point is, diplomacy is not going to work, stronger action by the people, ( if that’s even possible at this point) would seem to be the answer, basing the judgement straight from the constitution!
this cartoon is stupid and not accurate. and you’re an idiot
How is that cartoon not accurate?
I think anyone who is not totally brainwashed, or brain-dead, will find this cartoon disturbing humorous. Political cartoons are supposed to make people think, unfortunately some people are just followers not leaders.

well then you just proved that cartoon is accurate in todays times.
You are willing to sacrifice liberty for the perceived notion of security.
i don’t believe people listening to my cell phone conversations (which they aren’t) is an attack on my liberty. and if it were illegal than your democrats in congress should do something about it. but they don’t, in fact, they don’t do anything. also, i love how you say “percieved notion of secruity” as if this is all in my head and the wiretapping hasn’t actually saved lives. love it.
My democrats? Where do you get the ridiculous idea that I support democrats? I hate them moreso than I do the retard republicans.
Fact: wiretapping without obtaining a warrant PRIOR to the tap is unconstitutional.
Fact: Telcoms have ADMITTED they have aided the government in warrantless wiretaps.
How about posting some sources substantiating your claim that all of these wiretaps have saved lives?
If my opinion matters, which it probably doesn’t, I think it is awesome and thought provoking. Almost as funny as thinking admin is a democrat. Whatever happened to surefire?

What about all the emergency drills they had prior to Sep. 11, that didn’t save any lives.

@John-
Something need not be specifically prohibited in the Constitution in order for it to be unconstitutional.
In fact, the power must be specifically delegated to the feds in order for them to be legally able to do it.
Example: Genocide isn’t specifically prohibited, but it would surely be unconstitutional if the feds decided to engage in doing it.
