FBI admits violating peoples privacy

An article came out from the New York Times today detailing the abuse of privacy committed by the FBI all in the name of “fighting those pesky terrorists” (yea right). According to the article, this is the 4th straight year such abuses have taken place.

4 straight years? Think the feds would let someone get away with not filing a tax return for 4 years?

One real scary point from the article:

The breach occurred before the FBI enacted broad new reforms in March 2007 to prevent future lapses, FBI Director Robert Mueller said. And it was caused, in part, by banks, telecommunication companies and other private businesses giving the FBI more personal client data than was requested.

Ah well thats just fantastic. Private businesses are handing over peoples information to the feds without any regard to individual privacy rights, and on top of that they are giving more personal info than the feds requested. What the hell is going on here?

Coincidentally, Bush also called some of those companies “patriotic”, while trying to make the case for them to be given immunity from lawsuits.
