Feds in court to STOP testing for mad cow disease

From USA Today:

The Bush administration on Friday urged a federal appeals court to stop meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease, but a skeptical judge questioned whether the government has that authority.

Less than 1% of slaughtered cows are tested for the disease under Agriculture Department guidelines. The agency argues that widespread testing does not guarantee food safety and could result in a false positive that scares consumers.

If less than 1% of the cows are tested, how could more testing be anything but a good idea? Is this just more government stupidity, or are those in DC catering to the interests of their corporate masters?

  1. They dont test because they don’t want you to find uot how much is there. Here’s a tip for you Americans, don’t eat wild elk, they’re lousy with prions. Mad cow disease is rampant in your forests and farms, eat no hot dogs because they are made of spinal meat and stay away from bone throughcuts.

  3. I read similar article also named in court to STOP testing for mad cow disease:, and it was completely different. Personally, I agree with you more, because this article makes a little bit more sense for me
