Illegal aliens get free organ transplants!
Yup, you read that right, illegal aliens are getting expensive, taxpayer funded organ transplants! To make matters worse, the illegal in question has already received 2 transplants, and needs a third. This story is absolutely sickening, and only further goes to show the willful neglect of the federal government when it comes to securing our borders.
This is an important story, so I am going to reprint the whole thing just in case it happens to disappear from it’s original source. The most shocking parts will be highlighted.

Ana Puente was an infant with a liver disorder when her aunt brought her illegally to the United States to seek medical care. She underwent two liver transplants at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center as a child in 1989 and a third in 1998, each paid for by the state. But when Puente turned 21 in June, she aged out of her state-funded health insurance and the ability to continue treatment at UCLA.
This year, her liver began failing again and she was hospitalized at County-USC Medical Center, affiliated with the University of Southern California. In her Medi-Cal application, a USC doctor wrote, “Her current clinical course is irreversible, progressive and will lead to death without another liver transplant.” The application was denied.
The county gave her medication but does not have the resources to perform transplants.
Late last month Puente learned of another, little-known option for patients with certain healthcare needs. If she notified US Citizenship and Immigration Services that she was in the country illegally, state health officials might grant her full coverage through Medi-Cal, the state health services assistance program for the poor. Puente did so, her benefits were restored, and she is awaiting a fourth transplant at UCLA.
Puente’s case highlights two controversial issues: Should illegal immigrants receive liver transplants in the United States and should taxpayers pick up the cost?
The average cost of a liver transplant and first-year follow-up is nearly $490,000, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing. Donor livers are in scarce supply. In California, nearly 3,700 people are on a waiting list for livers, according to the network. Last year, more than 90 percent were given to US citizens.
Donor livers generally are allocated through a geographic-based distribution system on the basis of how sick the patients are and how long they have been on the transplant waiting list. Immigration status does not play a role in allocating organs. But some people say that it should.
“All transplants are about rationing,” said Roy Beck, executive director of NumbersUSA, which favors stricter controls on immigration. “I just don’t think the public ought to be funding any kind of benefits for people who are breaking the law.”
Larry Gonzalez, a US citizen who has hepatitis C, has known for a decade that he needs a new liver but was placed on the transplant waiting list only last week.
“Why do we have to get in line behind immigrants, foreigners, when we have enough people here to fill the hospitals?” said Gonzalez, 54, who lives in Ventura.
But Dr. Michael Shapiro, vice chairman of the ethics committee for the organ sharing network, said illegal immigrants have just as much right to receive organ transplants as US citizens. He said it is likely that more illegal immigrants donate organs than receive them. “People are people, and when you make an incision in an organ donor, you don’t find little American flags planted on their organs,” Shapiro said.
Illegal immigrant children with certain severe, chronic illnesses are eligible for funding under a state program. But the coverage ends when they turn 21.
State health officials said California law is designed so there is no gap in coverage, so children move seamlessly from state-funded treatment to county care. But that doesn’t always happen. When they become adults, patients like Puente often must switch doctors and hospitals and might lose access to necessary medical care.
That break can be life-threatening. “It doesn’t matter if I’m undocumented,” Puente said. “They should take care of me at UCLA for the rest of my life because I’ve been there since I was a baby.”

The last paragraph is the most shocking to me. The nerve of that woman to believe she should be taken care of (at taxpayer expense mind you) just because she has been here since she was a baby.
Taxpayers are looking at almost 1.5 million dollars to provide this illegal alien medical care. There are 3,700 Americans on the list waiting for livers, and an illegal alien has already used 2 going on 3, and she isn’t paying for anything. Where do people like her get the sense of entitlement?
I don’t mean to sound callous (well ok, I do) but American lives should be saved first, and if she dies in the meantime, then so be it.
What do you think?

After careful review, anyone with a even a modicum of logic can come to no other conclusion: illegal immigration must be halted, illegal immigrants here now must be deported and legal immigration needs decreased from the approx. 2 million allowed in per year currently.
Please review the following report on the FISCAL COST OF IMMIGRATION by economist Edwin Rubenstein just released this past week:
http://www.esrresearch.com/Rubensteinreport.pdf
A partial summary of the report:
The impact on 15 Federal Departments surveyed was: $346 billion in fiscal related costs in FY 2007.
Each immigrant cost taxpayers more than $9,000 per year.
An immigrant household (2 adults, 2 children) cost taxpayers $36,000 per year.
Legal immigrants were not separated out from illegal immigrants for the fiscal impact study, but if they had been, the fiscal cost per ILLEGAL immigrant would be even more shocking than the figures quoted above.
The most extensive and authoritative study, prior to economist Edwin Rubenstein’s “The Fiscal Impact of Immigration” (April 2008) , is the National Research Council (NRC)’s The New Americans: Economic, Demographic and Fiscal Effects of Immigration (1997).
The NRC staff analyzed federal, state, and local government expenditures on programs such as Medicaid, AFDC (now TANF), and SSI, as well as the cost of educating immigrants’ foreign- and native-born children.
NRC found that the average immigrant household receives $13,326 in federal annual expenditures and pays $10,664 in federal taxes—that is, they generate a fiscal deficit of $2,682 (1996 dollars)per household.
In 2007 dollars this is a deficit of $3,408 per immigrant household.
With 9 million households currently headed by immigrants, more than $30 billion ($3,408 x 9 million) of the federal deficit represents money transferred from native taxpayers to immigrants.
Our national immigration policies have to work for the United States. While improving the plight of the world’s poor is a laudable goal, the finite resources we have available to fulfill that goal would be swamped if there wasn’t some orderly and manageable system in place to limit entry into the United States to what this nation can actually support. The more illegal aliens that are permitted to subvert the immigration system, the fewer immigrants we can accommodate who might actually produce a positive benefit for our country.
The more we become a nation of illegal immigrants, the deeper we fall into anarchy.
I believe our entire immigration process needs to be halted.
We simply cannot afford immigrants anymore, not to mention we are facing an overpopulation nightmare within the next few decades.
Awesome post zeezil.
Next thing you know, we will be strangers in our own country, not to mention that we are reaching that fact today~
Surefire-I’m sure the Native Americans have thought that for centuries.
@Dixie- maybe so, but I don’t see blacks and whites being given land to dwell upon, and then retreat to when said native american breaks the law? These “reservations” allow the natives, to flee to their “land” where typical laws do not apply. Is that fair? Didn’t think so~
Goes without saying for the immigration problem. We have given them everything, from limitless credit, to “rights” ( which by the way, without a green card they shouldn’t have), to free health care. I mean when is it going to be enough? For those coming into our country ILLEGALLY, ( just a reminder, illegal is defined as a crime ), when will those be held acountable for their actions? Are you not held responsible for speeding when pulled over? Or stealing, rape, murder and so forth?
The arguement will always be the same, and our “great” politicians will never stand up for what is right and just~
